2019 Stragglers Cup - Lindfield GC (19th September)

The fourth Stragglers Cup took place at Lindfield with the course in good shape and with great weather, the quality of golf was not too bad either!

After an 18 hole Stableford Competition 'mixed in' with a team competition the winners were;

A determined Hampshire team win the trophy for the 1st time in fine style. But all was not totally lost for Sussex, as a certain Mr Wilkinson later described it as 'the best day of my life', for reasons which he would be only to happy to share with you if you ask him! Race night raised £500 for Hampshire's Help for Heros Charity.

With the Crown's splendid new apparel out for the first time, they couldn't hold on to their 1st leg lead and were swept away by some great golf from the Stragglers. Followed by some wonderful hospitality and a cracking evening BBQ back at the Crown Inn, Newick, many thanks lads!

Held on the windiest day that anyone had ever played golf in, both teams battled against the elements and decided that the course was victorious! However, despite some heroic efforts 'especially by Tibble & Costick' our team trails by 4 points at half time. £83.50 raised for Charity.(2nd Leg on 31st August, in guaranteed blazing hot sunshine on a calm day)

In a gripping final, refereed by Geoff Goater with official scoring by Ron Wilkinson, they came back from 3 down against Nick Mussell & Mart Stanton with a series of 'amazing' putts from Mac.

Despite outstanding performances by our lower teams, we find ourselves 3-5 down after the first leg of our match against the Hampshire Stragglers. All matches were very close but only Mike & Roy and Mart & Ron gained wins. Dave & Geoff and JJ & Dave gained credible draws.
